On may 28th 2005 we did one event that will stand out for me for a LONG LONG TIME. In Chicago we participated in the charity screening of RotS and proceeds went to the Children's memorial hospital. No this event was fun, but this isn't the event I will remember. Keep reading.. Shortly after this event we got a call from the hospital telling us that a parent of a 4 year old boy who is undergoing treatment for inoperable brain tumor, asked if they know who were were and if it was possible for us to attend what would possibly be his last birthday party. His name, Duke (Yes I think of troops too when i hear it)
Needless to say we said YES! So myself and several other MWG members went, also bringing gifts for him.
We played games, Tag, chase, took pictures and so on, His parents and grandparents could not stop telling up how much this ment to them. And we kept telling them we were MORE than happy to do it. The parents wanted to pay us but we refused. We got a letter back soon after the party from the parents saying they made a $1000 donation to the hospital in the Midwest Garrison's name.
Robb drove over 3 hours to be a part of this event!

We also took a nice group shot of us with him. We printed of them out in 8x10 size and we all signed one for him. The second we all signed and sent it to George Lucas along with the story. George also signed it and sent it to Duke!

NOW IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THAT!

I am happy to say that while Duke is still sick, under going massive kemo, He is still with us and god willing will still be with us for years to come.

Here is the Thank you we got from his mother ........

Dear Kathy and all who attended Duke's birthday,

How can we ever thank you enough for making Duke's birthday so
wonderful? We were blown away by your group - your dedication and compassion - and
your professionalism. It was a true pleasure getting to know you all. What a
great group of people you are - and you brought the biggest smile to our
son's face - that has lasted for 5 days! He is still in heaven and all
his friends are still talking about the party. The parents are too! We want
to know if there is a place where we can send a letter of recognition for
you all - as you deserve to be recognized for your volunteer work. We are
also sending a donation in the amount of $1000.00 to the
Neuroblastoma
Research Foundation
in the legion's name.

We hope to get the opportunity to see you all again. It will be Duke's
most memorable birthday. And we are so very grateful for you to do such
amazing things for kids like Duke. Thank you again for taking your personal time
to come out and make Duke so happy. It was the greatest gift he could have
received.

Thank you again, and "May the Force be with you!"

Bridget D.
